A pickup truck (pickup and pick-up) is a small truck with an open rear cargo enclosure. In the United States the term pickup is used for vehicles in three classes of light duty truck smaller than medium trucks (which are defined as weighing between ). Some countries have their own terms similar to pickup, such as utility or ute in Australia and New Zealand, or bakkie in South Africa. Large pickup trucks are somewhat rare in Europe, where vans and light trucks are commonly used for similar roles.
